Low Key Christmas

This year we had a really low key Christmas! We stayed home and didn't travel this year which was nice. Christmas morning the kids were so excited, this is the first year that Madison actually got up and before we knew it she has Garrett up too. They were so excited! While we were getting settled Garrett helped himself to the presents and was about to open on before he was stopped, we had to teach the boy to procedure for Christmas morning.

After a quick look at the cookies that Santa devoured, although he did leave some milk, the kids jumped into their stockings without a minute to loose.

On to the presents, they were both so excited to see what they got. Madison was convinced that Santa wrapped in red and white stripped paper with red ribbon, I am so glad that Santa could complete that request.

Madison Received - Digital Camera, Tinkerbell Movie, Sleeping Bag Set, slippers, Guess Who, HS3 Soundtrack

She got a makeup set from Garrett and loved it! Garrett wanted to participate too although Dave was not liking the idea!

Garrett Received - BIG Speed Rex and Speed Racer, Kung Fu Panda Movie, Spiderman Mask and Gloves, Sleeping Bag and Slippers

They both received numerous gifts from friends and family, they loved everything!

Although a low key Christmas we were blessed to spend time as a family, we missed everyone and there were some quiet missing moments too.

That night after we ate and snacked all day we went and saw a movie, Marley and Me. Very cute movie. Madison loved the movie, Garrett did really well but he got tired of sitting for so long!

On a side note Garrett got some underwear for Christmas, and although we have so many pairs he put them on Christmas morning and did really well, the next day not so well but today day 3 he only had one accident and even had them on when we went to the store! Oh I hope this continues!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was pretty low key, we went to the grocery store and then opened Christmas Eve pj's, read the Night Before Christmas, talked about the real reason and then off to bed. And I FORGOT WE PUT THE COOKIES OUT AND SPRINKLED REINDEER FOOD ON THE FRONT LAWN.
Madison decided to play Mary and she had Garrett convinced to play along but when it came time for the picture he wanted nothing to do with it.

Gingerbread House

This year we gave the kids the reigns to decorate the gingerbread house. They loved it. This is something that we do every year. Even though this year design was a little roof heavy, I think it may just be the most beautiful gingerbread house I have seen.

Its normal right

Don't normal people when they get together with friends have a ear candle party. This was an interesting experience. You lay down put an ear candle in your ear and they you light the candle, and yes that is with a real flame! After about 15 minutes it burns down and you take it out extinguish the flame and cut open the candle to see what came out of your ear.

5 of us ended up participating, the winner of the day with the most funk to come out of the ear goes to our nephew Bryce, he is 9 and well I wonder if he could hear before this was done =) Although this was disgusting it really was neat how much nasty stuff really is in every one's ears.

Annual Visit

Last weekend we had our annual visit to see Santa. The kids couldn't wait. Madison's request very typical....Garrett on the other hand now he says he wants a gun. I guess that is typical of a boy.

The light

We are starting to see the light with Garrett. Although it may be 7-10 days before he completely recovers he is getting better and returning to his old self. He has gained about 1/2 pound back which is a move in the right direction. For now we are giving him probiotic drops to help his intestines recover from the bad bacteria and get the good bacteria back in. Because of his allergies, basically the foods that contain the probotics he can't eat so we are going to supplement them for now. The Dr said he may take a little longer to recover because of this.
I am so glad that we have good pediatricians who will actually listen to the concerns, and their policy is if you feel something is wrong then bring them in. Usually your gut feeling is the correct feeling. Obviously though i see this kid everyday, I would hope I would know when things are not quite right.
For now I am enjoying not continually having to wash his blankets, sheets and clothes. I am sure our water bill will be outrageous this month. I am thankful that for 24 hours he has only had one bath.
Here is to healthier holidays! We have a lot of organizing and going through to do this holiday season and well I need healthy kids to get that done.

Bedtime Prayer

When we say nighttime prayers at our house, Garrett well he sits there but loses interest in 2 seconds. Not tonight he wanted to say the prayer. It went like this.
"Dear Jesus
Bless my toys and my dad and mom and Madison and me and Annie the dog. And my toys. And the big speed racer for Christmas. And me to not get sick. Amen"
Short, sweet but so cute. At least I know that even though he loses interest so quick he is listening too.

Oh Garrett

It all started Saturday after Thanksgiving, poor Garrett started to throw up and have some nasty diapers (We are talking nasty...I will spare you the details)! He threw up and we thought he was better. The plan was to drive home during the night from Wisconsin. We started driving and didn't get too far and Garrett started throwing up again...we spent the next 6 hours cleaning up throw-up, changing diapers, changing clothes and basically keeping a eagle eye on the little boy int he backseat. Life continued this same story when we got home. FAST FORWARD to Wednesday, still losing it at both ends, poor boy! The saddest was when he was sleeping he would not even wake up, we would go in and check on him and he would either have the nasty diaper, which would require a bath or he had thrown up everywhere. Lots of laundry has been done at this point, lots of laundry. Went to Urgent Care, they gave him a anti-nausea medicine, effective time 8 hours. Oh and it was eight hours of no throw up but horrible diapers. He continued to stay sick and not be himself. The oddest thing was he would be fine for awhile and then all the sudden would say his stomach hurt and curl up on the couch...basically the warning for mom and dad to get ready. Early Friday morning...like 4 am early, he had his 3rd bath of the night and I looked at him and he just wasn't right, you could see his bones, ribs, collar bone, hip bones and back bone. That was the end of the line. On the phone with the Dr in the morning, up to this point this has continued on for 6 days now.....they see him right away and we are off to the hospital admitted for fluids and to watch the poor little guy. At the Dr's office they weigh him he has lost almost 5 pounds.....when you only weigh 35 pounds, 5 pounds is a big deal!
We spent the next 34 hours at the Children's Hospital. He took it like a trooper, he has never been a kid to fight Dr's he just submits to needles and checks no big deal. The first 8 hours he did nothing but lay on the bed. After 8 hours of fluid, and to give you an idea of how dehydrated he was it took him 8 hours of being on fluid to pee! He started to perk up. The picture above is right before being released. He ended up getting over 2000 ml of fluid he started to look like a puffy marshmallow. The give up us the okay to go home and the kid starts throwing up and have some more nasty diapers. The Dr's almost kept him another day but decided to let us go home. Fluids and lots of them and only crackers, the slowly introduce foods. Here we have been home about 3 days and he is not throwing up but will only eat one or two bits of something and will tell you his stomach hurts and then will curl up on the couch or floor. The diapers are still disgusting, I am just extremely glad he is in diapers! We go back in Friday...Dave and I don't know if we are fully convinced this is just an intestinal bug. We shall see. He is still not completely himself, he has periods of the day where he seems to really perk up but then he is quick to retreat back to the couch. The crazy thing is that no one else in the house has gotten the same sickness.....weird!
Now as he is laying on the couch he will say, "I sick, I go to the hospital to make me better." It didn't phase him to have needles and constant vitals taken. In fact I think he enjoyed being there, he had the nurses wrapped around his fingers. Especially after the first initial 8 hours where he did nothing. What is better then a place that would bring you stuff on command, movies, games, puzzles, drinks, etc. He had it all figured out.
We have a check-up Friday and if this continues hopefully it won't but the track record so far isn't looking so good. I feel bad for the little guy and although I love the having the extra snuggler, I miss my crazy kid! On a side note he looks cute in his little scrubs!

Putting up the Chirstmas Tree

We got back from Wisconsin on Sunday morning, after a long drive of Garrett throwing up the whole 6 hour drive home (more on that later). Garrett seemed well enough and Madison couldn't wait to get the Christmas Tree up! Yes for those wondering our tree is in fact on our coffee table. A safety feature for the kids I watch during the day and also to protect the tree from being pulled over. I don't have a completed picture I will have to take one this week.

Snow Globes

Of course what trip to Grandma Anderson's wouldn't be complete without a craft activity. The kids were so excited to make the snow globes. Okay honestly these snow globes contained a million pieces that were tiny and contained lots of glitter, but we continued on and Madison, Garrett and Ashton completed their snow globes with a little help and they love them!

Thanksgiving Fun

This year....I know I am a little late updating Thanksgiving......we went to Wisconsin to Grandpa and Grandma's house. We arrived there on Wednesday morning to snow. The kids were so excited and couldn't wait to get out in the snow and play. The rolled around, crawled over the snow and had a blast! Making snow angels was Madison's favorite.

We still haven't had enough real snowfall at home to play. In fact today it is raining. Maybe eventually our snow clothes will get use again.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA!

TURKEY DAY!

We had two turkeys this year, a regular traditional turkey and a deep fried turkey. Both were good and of course all the sides. The kids anxiously awaited the food!

Drum roll please....we got Garrett to eat...okay really we told him it was chicken but hey he ate it. Madison couldn't wait for the pumpkin pie, she made sure that Grandpa Anderson had the pumpkin pie for her.
To work off the Thanksgiving feast we played Wii Fit. Okay that game is really fun! The kids had fun and could actually play the games. Although Garrett had a hard time adjusting his weight back and forth, but still loved it. Madison was actually really quite good at it. She could compete on the marble game with the best of them.
Apparently Grandpa exercises regularly on the Wii Fit

News....Duh

This statement just came across my yahoo news.

"Just announced US has been in a recession for a year"
DUH! Come on people! I could have told you that. Really who decides these things.
If my household is cutting back and millions of others are too, how about the government cut back too. I watched a whole documentary of the white house Christmas......the amount of money spent on Christmas decorations and preparations.....ridiculous!
Maybe they need to have a humble Christmas too!
I think it is high time the government take a look at the priorities they have too.
But hey we go on and our family will make it just fine!

Thanksgiving Day Feast

Thanksgiving Day Feast - KINDERGARTEN STYLE
(The Cutest Little Pilgrim Girl!)

Madison's school had their annual Thanksgiving Day Feast. Dave got to go with Madison and he said it was crazy. All the morning and afternoon kids were there together. All month long they have talked about Pilgrims and Indians and the actual thanksgiving dinner. Each student was asked to bring something to contribute, because at the first Thanksgiving everyone brought something to the table. We were asked to bring rolls.
The menu included:
Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, corn, rolls, cookies and brownies. Wow!
She had a blast and loved that her dad could come with her.

The movie!

Last night I got to watch Twilight......I loved it! I hated when it ended.
Yes, the movie is low budget but I loved being able to see the movie characters come to life.
Did you see Stephanie Meyer in the movie??? She was in there.
I was so glad to get out of the house even though we went to one theatre and it was sold out, called another, we ended up driving 20 minutes south to watch the movie. It was well worth it!

And the weekend so far has exceeded expectations.
The following is taken from Summit Entertainment www.summit-ent.com

Better and Better and Better

Yes, I got out of the house tonight, lovely grocery shopping. Although I choose the one night that it decided to start snowing and it was 30 degrees when I came out of the store.....brr. The morning high tomorrow 22 with a complete high of 30 tomorrow. I think Winter is here to stay

I filled up with gas tonight and it cost me $1.66 / a gallon. Love it. It cost me 25.00 to fill up my tank!

The kids are doing great, Madison had the nice bug that is going around it doesn't last long but she was miserable for about 12 hours. It is a bad sign when she sits up and says my tummy hurts, next time I will be more prepared! She woke up the next morning feeling great and really hungry according to her!

Garrett has definently figured out the words, I want that. As we are walking through the store tonight he spots a ambulance, police helicopter, and firetruck combo thing and he says, "I really, really want that, from Santa...with my big speed racer and big speed rex". We have always tried to keep is low key, three presents. He just loves everything. Although i know no matter what he gets he will be too excited!

Update

I really am okay! I do have great friends. Sometimes being in the house for days on end can make you a little crazy. But I really am okay!

Just Contemplating...a venting post....it is my blog

For the record I love my life, my kids, my husband, I even love the dog(ever though she is crazy and annoys everyone else).
But I was sitting here this morning wondering why I don't seem to ever do anything exciting. I haven't gone anywhere since Sunday...and it is Wednesday??? Wait I take that back I did go to Madison's school on Monday. I guess I need something different to do to spice up life, it is strange, nothing to really look forward to this weekend, I guess I just think that is strange right now. I have friends who always seem to have something fun going on, they are on the go and I am at home. Maybe I do it to myself, no.....I have a feeling I am not included in much lately and I haven't' figured the why out yet. Could it be I have a crazy two year old, I chalk it up that he is curious and adventurous, he learns something everywhere he goes, but he is a really good loving kid. Some may say that Madison is high maitenance, she is girl and has always been that way since birth, nothing new to us. She too is a good kid and would do anything to make someone else's day better. It may be the missing of great friends. I will figure it out, but I am looking forward to getting away for Thanksgiving. To go somewhere different and add a different life to our schedule.

Getting Ready

Getting ready for Turkey Day! This year we are going to my parents for the big day but that doesn't stop us from making these cute little Turkeys. We hung them in the window for all the passerby's to see!
